The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the people of the right hand 38
