The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches; 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
