The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And shade extended 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
