The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
