The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
