The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
