The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
