The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 and extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
