The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
