The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 near to flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
