The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 stay away from sins 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
