Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
