The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
