The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
