The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a host of the ancients 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the right. 38
