The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
