The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and serried acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
