a multitude of the ancients, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
