These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
