A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
