۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 Abraham asked his father and his people, "What are these statues which you worship?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
