A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
