A multitude of those of old 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
