A throng of the ancients 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
