The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
