a good many of olden times, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 They had been affluent before, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Proclaim, "Without doubt all - the former and the latter." 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 And say: "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
