Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ THE CONCRETE REALITY. 1 What is the Indubitable? 2 And what could make thee conceive what that laying-bare of the truth will be? 3 (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come. 4 So regarding the Thamud, they were destroyed by a terrible scream. 5 And the 'Ad were destroyed by the furious cold blast of roaring wind 6 which He willed against them for seven nights and eight days without cease, so that in the end thou couldst see those people laid low [in death,] as though they were so many [uprooted] trunks of hollow palm trees: 7 Then seest thou any of them left surviving? 8 The Pharaoh, those who lived before him and the people of the Subverted Cities all persisted in doing evil. 9 They defied their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with an ever-tightening grip. 10 When the flood rose high and covered the whole land, We carried you in the Ark. 11 so that We might make it an instructive event for you, and retentive ears might preserve its memory. 12 When a single blow is blown on the Horn, 13 And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash, 14 On that day shall the great event come to pass, 15 when the sky will be rent asunder, the grip holding it together having loosened on that Day, 16 and the angels shall stand upon its borders, and upon that day eight shall carry above them the Throne of thy Lord. 17 On that day you shall be exposed to view-- no secret of yours shall remain hidden. 18 He who is given his ledger in his right hand, will say: "Here, read my ledger. 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 So he shall be in a pleasing life 21 In an elevated garden, 22 Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near. 23 We shall say to him, "Eat and drink joyfully as a reward for the good deeds you did in days gone by." 24 But as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he shall say, 'Would that I had not been given my book 25 and neither known this my account! 26 Oh, would that it had been the ending! 27 My wealth hath not availed me, 28 I am bereft of power." 29 (It will be said): "Seize him and fetter him, 30 Then throw him in the blazing Fire. 31 "Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits! 32 He would not believe in Allah, the Most Great; 33 nor did he feel any urge to feed the needy, 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 Nor any food save filth 36 which no one will eat except the sinners. 37
