The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 except those who are steadfast 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
