The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
