The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 So those who desire more than this it is they who are the transgressors. 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
