The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 stripping away his skin, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
