The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Eager to roast; 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
