The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Save worshippers. 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
