WHAT, THEN, is amiss with such as are bent on denying the truth, that they run about confusedly to and fro before thee, 36 [coming upon thee] from the right and from the left, in crowds? 37 What, is every one of them eager to be admitted to the Garden of Bliss? 38 Never! For, behold, We have created them out of something that they know [only too well]! 39 But nay! I call to witness the Lord of the Easts and the Wests, that We have the power 40 To bring better people than they in their place; and they will not be able to thwart Us. 41 So leave them to engage in vain talk and to amuse themselves until they come face to face with the Day which they are promised, 42 The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),- 43 Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the day which they were threatened with. 44
