In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
