In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
