Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning unto humankind 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
