The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
