In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou folded in garments! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
