The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
