In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
