In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
