In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 You have by day prolonged occupations [with Dawah work]. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
