Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
