The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
