The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
