The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord glorify 3 purify your garments; 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
