The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
