The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
