The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your clothing purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
